What we need
A written request or order from an authority that is legally entitled to ask, citing the law it relies on.
The specific account, persona, post or time period concerned. We push back on requests that are too broad.
Contact details of the official so we can verify the request.
What we can and cannot provide
We cannot read private chats (end-to-end encrypted).
We can see which account owns an anonymous persona. We disclose that link only in response to a valid legal order, after review by [[our legal adviser]].
We tell the affected person about a request unless the law or the order forbids it.
Emergencies
If someone's life is at immediate risk we may share limited information without a formal order and will record why.
